Fabio Monti was born in Italy, where he lives, in 1963, he's married and he has two sons. After his studies in Science in Information Technology, and the military service in the Arma dei Carabinieri, in 1986 he started his professional career at the bank Banco Lariano (the current Gruppo Intesa San Paolo), Como. In 1991 he moved to SIA (Società Interbancaria Autonomazione) working in organization and information science and technology. In 1994 he completed the School of Journalism and started a collaboration with the main ICT and financial Italian magazines and newspapers. In 1996 he joined Lotus Development Italia (the current IBM) as public relation manager, and soon became marketing and communication manager. In 1999 he was appointed to the office of marketing and sales director, by Interoute Telecomunicazioni Italia, the Fondazione Sandoz telephone company. In 2002 he started to work as marketing and business development manager at Durante Group Spa, and in 2004 he was appointed managing director of Accelera the group business Service Company.
Since 2006 he’s worked in higher education policies. He has managed the Fondazione Rui Milano since January 2006, and in 2011 he was appointed secretary of the Conferenza dei Collegi Universitari di Merito legally recognized by the MIUR (Ministero Istruzione Università Ricerca) and secretary general of EUCA – European University College Association.
He’s particularly active in the civil society: he’s vice president of the Fondazione Milano (the former Fondazione Scuole Civiche of Milano), which includes Milano Languages (Superior Institute for Interpreters and Translators), the Civic School of Music, the Milano Theatre (the Drama School Paolo Grassi), and the School of Cinema and Television; he furthermore is vice president of the Ente Morale Opera Pizzigoni, and member of AsRui, the Fondazione Uniserv, and the Società Incoraggiamento Arte e Mestieri (SIAM) boards.
In 2008 he received, as Fondazione Rui, the Certificate of Civic Merit from the City of Milan. In 2000 he won, as Interoute Telecomunicazioni Italia, the marketing prize “Freccia d’Oro” set up by Assodirect.
